Montana 2007 Letter Series P Gewurztraminer

Posted on February 1, 2016

It has been several years since Montana re-branded as Brancott Estate and sold its Gisborne winery. Though Brancott has continued the traditional top-range Letter Series wines, the P Gewurztraminer is no longer sourced from its namesake region of Patutahi, Gisborne.

The 2007 P Gewurztraminer was produced under Steve Voysey, Gisborne winemaker for Montana for over 30 years. He claims the 2007 vintage was one of the region's best ever, particularly in regard to Gewurztraminer.

Comments - This is a nearly ten year old white wine and I have mixed emotions about holding onto it this long. Really stunning example of Gewurztraminer and what Gisborne has to offer, but I think it was just passed its prime. That said, it was still drinking beautifully and it was a real treat.
