Infinity pools make for such cool photographs. It's hard to tell where the pool ends and the ocean begins isn't it?

It's Been Pumping

It's been a busy week for me, sorry for not posting here for a while but the surf has been pumping. Back-to-back long period groundswells arrived end of last week and just started dropping off yesterday. I heard calls that Padang Padang was at its best all season over the weekend; I didn't partake as the lineup was consistently packed and plenty of other spots had waves to spare.
One of my favorite spots was absolutely pumping all weekend. I'll have some photographs soon, but there were several days with an empty lineup and triple overhead bombs coming through. This wave is so powerful and sucks so much water off the reef; I was duck-diving sets and scrapping my fins on the reef. Nearby Bingin was maxed out for most of the swell though it did have it's shining moments.

New Place

I'm really enjoying my new house, despite the fact that it still lacks a significant amount of furnishings. I really like the design; the kitchen and living area are open to the garden pictured below, while the main bedroom has glass looking from the other side. It's such a tranquil place to wake up, I find it difficult to leave in the mornings.
The Buddha statue in the corner is about a meter tall, and quite special. It originates from Borobudur, the famous Mahayana Buddhist temple built in the 9th century and considered one of the great architectural displays of the ancient world. It is Indonesia's most popular tourist destination and still used for Buddhist pilgrimages today. The Buddha statue here is Vairocana, the center of the five Buddhas and regarded as the true nature at the core of all beings and phenomena.

Missed It

I love driving through the Indonesian countryside; the simplicity of some situations are so inspiring to me. This photograph shows a scene that is so unique and so common at the same time; a small river harbor several kilometers inland from the sea. I was a bit disappointed though because I missed the best part; just after I setup and took this shot, the little boy in the blue shorts yelled up to me, "picture! take my picture!", before he turned around and dropped his pants as the two men laughed hysterically. Oh well, I missed it.

Side-Lined but Still Postive

Well, I guess it was bound to happen. After fighting off flu symptoms for over a week, I woke up a few days ago with a throat infection and ear infection. Now I'm on four prescriptions and out of the water for a while, hopefully only a week. As most people close to me know, I can get a bit depressed when I can't surf for a while but I'm staying positive because I have so many good things going on in my life. Along with a new job I started last week, I'm moving into a new house. Check back soon, I'll have details to share.
